The trend towards more
open floor plans and areas that
bring the
outdoors inside is unmistakable. Today's homes and commercial buildings
use more glass than ever before. As attractive as this is, it leads to
a host of problems ranging from excessive glare, heat build-up and high
energy costs to the premature fading of carpets, furniture and
draperies. |
 |
Lumar and
Vista window film can effectively alter these problems
while providing increased comfort and lower overall costs. With today's
push to "Go
Green", window film provides energy conservation and an almost
zero carbon footprint, making our planet a healthier and more
confortable place to live.

May 2009: How to care for
window film.
The best method is the least expensive, make your
own glass cleaner for pennies. Take an empty spray bottle that has been
thoroughly rinsed, fill it up with water and add about 1/8 of a
teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Your done. Spray the glass with
solution and wipe clean with a paper towel or old cotton t-shirt. DO
NOT USE NEWSPAPER as the inks transfer to the film causing a big mess.
What about "off the shelf" glass cleaners? Most contain chemicals that
are harsh on surfaces other than the window film and glass. Many paint
contractors and cabinet makers advise customers to stay away from
ammonia since it can hasten the removal of finishes and cause damage.
As you spray ammonia on the window, the mist drifts to the window sill
and flooring where it is absorbed and begins its task of undermining
the surface.
Each customer who has window film installed in their home or business
receives printed instructions from Solar Control Films
that are similar to those mentioned above.
April 2009: How good is a warranty? As good as the reputation
of the company that offers it.
CPFilms has put alot into their warranty system by establishing fair
international standards and installer training that assure the consumer
will recieve the best product and durability possibility.
All VISTA and Llumar products are backed by a warranty issued by its
manufacturer CPFilms, when installed by authorized VISTA and Llumar
dealers in accordance with factory procedures and guidelines. All
warranties are honored by CPFilms Inc., (even if the installing dealer
is no longer available).
March 2009: During
the winter months the sun lays low in the sky and easily peers into
your windows. Some feel that since it is low and hiding behind trees
and buildings, UV intrusion is not a problem. It is true that while the
sun is lower in the sky on its winter trek, the atmosphere prevents
some UV from coming through, when compared to summer months while the
sun is at its zenith. Add to this fact that UV bounces off the surface
of just about any object, not requiring a direct sunlight beam to carry
it, and you have "UV INTRUSION."
If you like lots of sun but wish to cut down on the "UV INTRUSION",
then we would suggest some of our high visibility films with 99.9% UV
block. Virtually clear but with energy control properties, these types
of film afford a spectacular view with all the benefits of UV blocker.

February 2009:LLumar
Safety and Security Films comprise a special class of window film
products. What distinguish them as a group are both their physical
properties and the uses to which they are put. Functionally, they
provide a stronger physical barrier that is more firmly bonded to the
glass surface (generally speaking) than conventional solar control or
decorative films. While solar control & decorative elements can be,
and often are, added to safety and security films, it is their physical
properties (such as their peel, tensile, and break strength) that allow
them to serve a variety of safety and other protective uses. Some
situations include spontaneous glass breakage, blast event, earthquake,
windborne debris, forced entry and accidental breakage. Many
contractors use this product to bring glass up to tempered standards.

January 2009: Solar
Control Films offers LLumar decorative films for endless design
possibilities from a basic palette of colored, translucent, opaque, and
geometric patterned films. Decorative films add a subtle, stylish and
effective level of privacy and glare reduction to any flat glass
application. Custom effects are limited only by your creative
imagination, a willingness to experiment, and a knowledgeable
installation company like Solar Control Films.
Decorative films are a cost effective, versatile alternative to the
traditional method of acid etched patterned glass. Frosted films allow
good use of available ambient light while reducing visual intrusion,
making them an excellent choice to enhance privacy in offices,
restaurants and storefronts. Used alone or combined with patterned
film, these visually appealing films can eliminate the need for blinds.
Frosted films reduce eye strain and help improve conditions for office
employees and building tenants. All films are designed for interior
application and can be retrofitted on existing glass with minimal
disruption to building tenants.
December 2008:
Homeowners may not be aware they can earn up to $500 by having
solar-control window film installed on their home. For consumers
concerned with high energy costs, there are now two financial
incentives to invest in energy efficient improvements – lower monthly
energy bills and a tax credit. CPFilms, a business unit of Solutia
Inc., announces that many of their Vista® solar-control window
films now qualify for a tax credit established by the Energy Policy Act
of 2005. The world’s largest manufacturer of window film will help
consumers receive a tax credit.
Which films qualify? Call Solar Control Films today for a FREE home estimate.
November 2008: Many
who begin to look at window film for their homes are NOT interested in
having "dark" film. As far as they are concerned, dark film is most
effective for keeping the heat out. That is no longer true. Today's
technologies allow high energy rejection with minimal visual loss using
various forms of metals and ceramics laminated in the window film. So,
if you want visibility both ways to be clear and yet have energy
control, it can be done.
October 2008: Privacy
film is usually one of the sought after items in window film. What has
to be determined is, what is your definition of privacy? Many want to
be able to see out, but have no one see in, all day long and night. See
our FAQ section on "One Way" glass. Others would like to have light
come in, but no visibility either way. With "frosted" finish films,
that is very easy to accomplish and for those who want complete
blockage of light and visibility, there are opaque finish films. Feel
free to contact us for samples of these products.
September 2008: One
of the most asked questions to professional installers is, "Do my
windows have to be dark to stop UV damage?" The answer is NO. UV
inhibitors are transparent petroleum based coatings on window film
which can stop up to 99% of UV intrusion. When coupled with metallized
films, the UV value can be driven up to 99.9%. If you only want UV
blockage, transparent films can be applied to the glass giving no
indication that any film is there. But keep in mind, UV is not the only
thing causing damage to your interior, heat is a culprit too.
August 2008: With
the cost of living going up up up, the only way to really battle the
trend is through reducing the impact we have on natural resources and
consumables. Window film can reduce the amount of energy loss from your
windows by up to 40%, thus translating into saved dollars for you.
Since window film does not require periodic renewal, there is little
waste to no waste to effect the environment.
July 2008: The use
of window film in your home or business can provide more than just
energy efficient conditions, it can provide safety too. How so?
Depending on the film thickness, if glass breakage should occur, the
film can reduce the amount of glass fragments that drop from the broken
window. The thicker the film, the more effective the dispersement
becomes. For more information on safety films contact us at info@solarcontrolfilms.biz
